You do more damage that way and will prevent you losing aggro when the DPS are nuking them with their AOE. Keep still as much as possible.įor 3+ enemies do your AOE combo. Make sure your tank stance is on and stays the entire run of the dungeon.Īlways face the enemy/enemies away from the party. But they will be critical of you if you have reached level 50+ and not know the basics of tanking.įinally, I would like to share what I feel is the basics for tanking. But as you go higher level, they will start to have expectations. On average, DF parties are pretty patient with new tanks. You take one multiple enemies, dodge what you can, keep your defensive cooldowns rolling and use your AOE attack when fighting more than 2 enemies. Tanking from level 15 is the exact same thing as level 80. As you go higher level it's just a long hallway with gates. Trash skips only exist in lower level dungeons, pre level 50. If you get lost someone in the party will know the way.

You don't really need to know the dungeon route perfectly. Tanking isn't hard on FFXIV despite what the average DF tank leads you to believe. Thanks for your insights and have a nice weekend. So how is tanking over here? Do i need to know all the routes perfectly? Are trashskips a big part of tanking knowledge? How is the lerning curve for tanking here? How's the overall community acceptance to new/leraning tanks? I have absolutely no problem taking the blame if i mess up something and i'm thankfull for every advice, but i don't like to get verbaly insulted all the time. I even got a few vote kicks just for telling that i'm new to tanking at the start of an dungeon. Everyone there expected you to be flawless even in the low level dungeons and ppl were getting rude pretty fast for every small mistake you made. I never really played a tank before mostly to the fact i never get over the starting experince with dungeons groups in WoW. Thy look both pleasing to me but both of this classes are tanks. I'm thinking about starting to play as Paladin and give the Dark Knight a try too, later on. I just like the knight theme overall, always play some knightish toon since i started my video game career with Baldurs Gate. In Azeroth i was playing Paladin and Death Knight.

I played WoW for years but i'm pretty much done with it even SL looming on the horizon don't get me excited to go back again.Īt the moment i play as a conjourer and having a lot of fun.
